Computer Rentals Writing Assignments

The school board is holding an emergency meeting of Friday, Feb. 6, to vote on renting computers due to Leaguetowns’ district computer service being breached. The system had been hacked, and several high school teachers lost files, including tests and grades.

Because of the breach, the district is installing new security software, and all computers, including student computers, throughout the district are offline for the next three weeks.

“It’s great that the school board is moving so quickly on this request. I know it will be somewhat costly for the district. MacWorld in Southside agreed to let us rent out four Macintosh computers with necessary software for 500$ for three weeks,” yearbook advisor, Rodney Stephens.

For 22 years, the school has sponsored a “Yearbook Day,” which is essentially a senior signing party, the day the yearbook arrives on campus.

“Whoever hacked into our system is bright. They didn’t leave many traces. I don’t think it was a student. This is some sophisticated hacking. The police are getting closer to the hacker, though. He or she left a few bread crumbs for us to follow.” Ed Robles, district technology director.”
